2020-21 SEASON

Submissions accepted through November 30, 2019.

Heller Theatre Company is looking for full-length plays or 45-60 minute one-act plays to produce for its 2020-21 Season.

As we are a smaller, black-box theatre, we do prefer the following for our productions:
- a small cast (no more than 10)
- limited settings (single-setting or minimal set changes)
- a diverse cast of all genders, ages, races, etc.
- an array of genres are acceptable: comedy, drama, musical, etc.

To submit your script or for more information, please email us at Royalties are paid to playwrights whose plays are performed.

Previously-performed original plays include I Wish You Actually Liked Me (and Other Familial Impossibilities) by Emile Adams, The Light Fantastic by David Blakely*, Time for Chocolate by Bruce Dean Willis, as well as many short plays and one-acts.

*The Light Fantastic received the inaugural TATE Award for Best Original Play in 2017.

Second Sunday Serials

Second Sunday Serials will be back in September to kick off the third season of the monthly original theatre celebration.

In Second Sunday Serials, playwrights tell a story one month at a time. Each month, 5 short plays are performed; the Top 3 (as voted by the audience) advance to the next month, where the audience will see what happens next in each story. Playwrights whose scripts are chosen to go forward receive a royalty for each month and must submit the next installment each month until the story is wrapped up or they are no longer voted forward.

Scripts must run no longer than 12 minutes (8 pages in standard Dramatist Guild format); longer scripts will not be considered. Scripts should tell a contained story with a clear story arc (beginning, middle, and end) and contribute to a larger narrative. Scripts should rely on compelling, three-dimensional characters and engaging dialogue to tell the story. Scripts should contain minimal stage directions.

Submissions can be made at any time to and join us on the Second Sunday of every month (September through May) at 8:00PM at Studio 308 (308 S. Lansing Ave.) to watch the shows and cast your vote!
